Keto Carnivore: Maybe Grassfed Really Is Better; Ballet barre; Zero carb cat; Menopause;Off-Grid Homestead
I recently purchased quite a bit of grain-fed variety beef cuts like tendon, tongue, sweetbreads, oxtail, short ribs, back ribs, kidney, crosscut beef shank, and meaty soup bones. Normally I try to get 100% grassfed, but my favorite local grassfed rancher has been running low on my favorite cuts. So I thought I might try locally raised grain-fed.
It is tasty and affordable, and they always have my favorite cuts in stock, but I'm feeling like it is just not as nourishing. I feel like I have to eat more of it to get the same nutrition. And I'm gaining a few pounds from that.
I would like try to get back to 100% grassfed beef once I get through this order, but I don't know. It is just so much easier to buy this grain-fed beef. It is closer to home, always in stock, and affordable. I guess as I get through it in the next two weeks, I will make my decision.
In other news, I have switched from bodyweight exercises back to ballet barre exercise. I feel better doing the ballet because for one, the ballet seems to make longer, leaner muscles rather than bulky, thick muscles from the bodyweight exercise. And for another, it actually makes me feel better too. I feel tingly and invigorated from the ballet, instead of worn-out and tired from the bodyweight exercise.
Also, my cat is still on a zero carb diet almost two years now. I buy him the Tiki brand Luau cans, which are just chicken, egg, and salmon with chicken juices and supplements. He quickly lost his paunch and has a sleek, glossy coat, and has become much more cuddly too!
I think I am starting to go through menopause. My menses is starting to peter out. Starting a few years ago, I would go a few months with no menses. This year, I went five months with no menses. Knock on wood, I have had no hot flashes or other symptoms, although I wonder if my few pounds' weight increase in the last year might be a side effect.
I am still thinking about building an entirely self-sufficient off-grid homestead. I had previously been considering sheep ranching, since I enjoy mutton so much, and that would also provide wool for clothes. But, I was recently considering raising geese instead. They are smaller and easier to slaughter, and not as much meat storage is needed. But I've never eaten goose meat! So I've ordered a frozen whole goose and will see if I like it. Edited to add: Oh, I liked it!! I cooked it in a big crock pot, cross-hatched the skin to let the fat melt through meat. It was soooo succulent! Incredible!
