As I wrote yesterday's blog post about
eustress and hormesis, I got to thinking about how being in tune with our natural way of life really brings about
contentment and happiness. An understanding that challenges are good for us, that life is all about the trials and tribulations of the journey, not the destination, can really bring about contentment!
There are many studies which show that a brain running on ketones instead of sugar has a more even keel. For example, a ketogenic diet has been used to reduce seizures in epileptics. Some research is showing that it can also be effective for other brain function, such as in Alzheimer's, autism, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
It would make sense that keeping the brain running smoothly would help combat such diseases. I have read that most people following a ketogenic diet feel basically happy: a good solid brain functioning, and a
positive attitude in the face of challenges. I would even go as far to say that
zero-carb ketogenic works even better, because then there are no problems with intolerances that come with plant matter (such as fructans, gluten, lectins, tannins, etc.). Also avoiding dairy allows one to alleviate any intolerances from casein or lactose. Intolerances can bring on inflammation, which reduces overall health, but also affects brain activity as well. When one has no inflammation, the brain will run smoothly and efficiently!
I believe we are
naturally happy, we just need to be
healthy to allow that to happen!
