Bodybuilding: Smooth versus Cut/Ripped


I really, really want to get "cut" / "ripped". I'm close, at 15% bodyfat (I am female). But I need to get down below 15% to get out of the bodybuilding "smooth" stage, where there is little muscle definition, into the "cut" stage, where the muscles are defined.

I'm planning on using some different strategies. For one, I'm going to restrict my calorie intake just a little bit more. I'm also going to increase my exercise. I've taken up ballet barre exercise again, and I do some urban hiking, but I might add a little free weights also. I have a great dip/pullup tower too, but unfortunately, it doesn't fit in my place and is in a friend's garage. I'd really like to start using that again. I love doing pullups and dips!

I think I probably need to get down to 13% bodyfat to get a "cut" physique. So that's my goal!

How do I measure my bodyfat? I usually do it two ways. I take a daily bodyfat measurement from my scale every morning. I also compare that with bimonthly or so measurements using the US Navy bodyfat calculator. That usually coincides pretty well with the bodyfat scale.

I really wish I had not experimented with dairy! I really feel like it altered my bodyfat composition quite a bit and I am still trying to bounce back! Lesson learned!
