In the climate change documentary "Before the Flood", Gidon Eshel recommends that people stop eating beef altogether. His reasoning is that cattle produce methane which is supposedly even more deleterious than carbon dioxide to the atmosphere.
I would like to point out that prior to modern times, vast herds of ruminant animals covered multiple continents. Ruminant animals are not problematic to the environment when allowed to roam freely from pasture to pasture. In fact, it is the opposite! Grassfed ruminants are extremely beneficial to the environment, enriching the soil and grasslands, and playing an absolutely integral part of healthy prairie ecosystems, which in turn produce oxygen for the atmosphere.
Eshel recommends "if you have to have flesh between your teeth" to eat chicken instead. Unfortunately, chicken just does not have the nutrients that homo sapiens needs! The fats and meats from grassfed ruminant animals perfectly contain the vital combination of all vitamins, minerals, micronutrients, and antioxidants that homo sapiens requires for true health! Which makes sense, since we evolved to prey on them! We really must not shirk from our own part to play in the ecosystem. And not only for the health of the ecosystem and the atmosphere, but for our own health as well!
Since the erroneous recommendations to follow a low-fat, high carb diet, people across the world have increasingly become sicker and more obese. Obviously, these guidelines are not only not helpful, but actually dangerous to health! They deny our true nature.
I am going to listen to my gut. My gut tells me unequivocally what works and what doesn't. When I eat the fat and meat from grassfed ruminants, I am very happy, healthy, and in harmony with the earth!
