I was realizing the other day how much that life is
cumulative. It's all about the long game. Civilization could not exist without building upon everything that came before. We can only have the technologies that we have now because of all the previous technologies leading up to them. Our personalities and mental health are based on every experience building up to today. Our physical health is built upon our habits over the course of years, and maybe even includes the personal habits of our parents as well through DNA memory.
It is the same with keto. It takes a while to settle in after making any changes, such as when first starting keto, or adding or withdrawing dairy or pork, or upping your fat intake. You have to give your body time to adapt and adjust. If you have been running on sugar your whole life, there is a lot of cleanup (autophagy) that has to happen!
I also feel that it is kind of like the course of a river or creek over time. A creek never runs in a straight line. It meanders back and forth, sometimes making very sharp turns, seemingly for no reason. It is taking the path of least resistance, albeit invisible to our eyes. Over time this path will change. Sometimes even an oxbow lake is created when the river stops one of its meanderings altogether. Our lives are the same way, meandering through experiences and trials, invisibly taking the path of least resistance. Maybe we have to leave something important behind, like the oxbow lake. Along the way, we should be cognizant of the long term. What is making our life better, healthier, more content, more placid?
For me, I am so happy to be free of prescriptions and supplements. I feel that true health ideally should not need extraneous and unnatural products. Just sunshine, water, exercise, friends, and good food!
