Salt for Health

I just read "The Salt Fix" which explains that contrary to "modern" health advice, salt actually lowers blood pressure and aids in the prevention and cure of many diseases!

When people are allowed to eat salt to satisfaction, that is usually just the right amount that they need for health!

Also, it is interesting to note that unrefined sea salts contain many trace minerals that are necessary for bone health, such as strontium, magnesium, and calcium. They also contain sulfur, which is important for skin, connective tissues, and hair. Salt is also essential for electrolyte balance, the central nervous system, and digestion (stomach acid contains chloride which comes from salt!).

There are numerous sea salts available, if you are lucky enough to have a good local supplier. I enjoy many different brands. Lately I have discovered Pacific Salt from New Zealand. It's got a fabulous full flavor! I also really enjoy Maldon Sea Salt from England, which has a nice crunchy flake to it!

It was nice to finally read a well-documented book on the importance of eating enough salt!
