Zero Carb Keto: Keeping It Affordable

I thought it might be helpful to pass along some suggestions on how to keep zero carb keto more affordable!

Many good fatty cuts can actually be pretty economical compared to other cuts. For example, beef tongue is usually very affordable. My local 100% grassfed farmer only charges $3/lb for tongue! And since there's no bones, and just a little skin, there's very little waste. Also, it is so fatty that no extra fat is needed on the side. So it is a very good value!

Certain roasts and briskets can be found at a good price too. My local grassfed farmer charges $6 per pound for beef chuck roast and $6.50/lb for beef brisket. For these cuts, there is usually no waste at all. And they are often nicely fatty on their own and will not necessarily need extra fat.

Beef heart is also usually very affordably priced. My local grassfed farmer just charges $4/lb. There is usually no waste with heart. However, it is extremely lean, even when leaving the fat on it, so extra fat might be desired on the side.

Eggs are a very affordable item. My local farmer only charges $3.50/dozen for pastured, completely free-range medium chicken eggs. They are pretty good in terms of fat/protein ratio, especially if you concentrate on the yolks. So they do not necessarily need extra fat on the side either.

Another option is whole lamb. I have been buying whole lamb shares from another local grassfed farmer. For me, this has come to around $6.70/lb. There is very little waste (just a small amount of bones), and it is nice and fatty on its own and needs no extra fat.

I hope this is helpful to try and keep costs down while following zero carb keto!
